Are the mouthpieces for the VORTEX also available separately?
Yes, they can be ordered from PARI Medical Ltd in packs of 10.
Can dry powder inhalers (DPI) also be inhaled with the VORTEX?
The VORTEX is a holding chamber for sprays, specifically
metered dose inhalers. A holding chamber is not needed for DPIs. In this
case it is more important that the patient has a sufficient inspiratory
flow to inhale the respirable particles out of the device.
Do square or oval metered dose inhalers also fit on the VORTEX?
Generally, yes. The blue connecting ring has a flexible border that
will in general fit the various shapes of the metered dose inhalers.
How can I tell when my child has breathed in all the medication?
For this, we recommend the following: babies younger than 18 months
should inhale for 4 to 6 breaths, infants older than 18 months should
inhale for 2 to 4 breaths. If the child is using a mask, please make
sure that it fits tightly on the child's face.
How do I clean the child mask?
Children's masks can be cleaned with washing up liquid and water. They
can also be disinfected in a steam disinfector or boiled. For detailed
instructions, please read the instructions for use.
How do I clean the VORTEX?
The VORTEX can be cleaned with washing up liquid, or it can
also be washed in the dishwasher. In addition, it can be disinfected in a
steam disinfector or with boiling water. For detailed instructions,
please read the instructions for use.
How many breaths does it take to breathe in all the medication spray in the VORTEX?
That depends on the inspiratory volume. Since babies and infants have a
smaller inspiratory volume, babies younger than 18 months should inhale
for 4 to 6 breaths, and infants older than 18 months should inhale for 2
to 4 breaths. Children aged 6 and older, and adults, normally need to
take only 1 breath.
How often should I clean the VORTEX?
The VORTEX should be cleaned regularly and immediately after the application if it becomes visibly dirty. It can be washed & dried as many times as is required. This
is because it is anti-static so it is not possible to build an
electro-static charge on the aluminium walls.
Is it possible to inhale several medications one after the other using the same VORTEX?
If your doctor has instructed you to inhale several different
medications one after the other without interruption, you can use the
same VORTEX for this. It is not necessary to clean the VORTEX between successive medications in an inhalation session.
Which mask is suitable for which age group?
The Ladybug children's mask can be used by infants from birth up to
about 2 years of age. The Frog children's mask can be used by children
aged 2 and older. Since inhalation is more efficient with a mouthpiece
than with a mask, the child should be encouraged to inhale through the
mouthpiece as soon as he or she is able to do so.
