PARI in the Americas Newsletter - Vol 2: May 2008 - Preparing For Summer

Customer Corner

I wanted to extend my sincerest thanks for your product, namely the PARI Trek portable nebulizer.

Having been diagnosed with bullous emphysema some twenty odd years ago or more, I have had to rely on nebulized medications as part of my daily routine.  My wife and I travel to Europe frequently and this compressor has made those travels possible.  Thanks to you, I am able to travel and am not limited to return home during my daily routines while running errands around town.

Whether you are planning a family vacation to the beach or a picnic at the park, don't let asthma treatments slow you down.  Maximize your summer freedom and portability with the PARI Trek® S Portable Compressor System and PARI Vortex® Holding Chamber.  Spring and summer are great times to be outdoors and with that comes exposure to outdoor allergens.  It is important to stay healthy and keep your asthma under control by adhering to a prescribed treatment regimen.  The PARI Trek® S Portable Compressor System allows patients to take their treatments anywhere in just 5-6minutes with the Li-Ion rechargeable battery (047F0020).  The PARI Vortex® Holding Chamber provides easier hand/breath coordination with your prescribed MDI, increasing medication delivery for more consistent and efficient treatments.

It is well documented that effective aerosol therapy is influenced by multiple factors. Factors include but are not limited to, the type of delivery device, medication formulation, and patient-related factors, such as proper device use and disease severity. Recently, face mask design has been identified as a factor to efficient delivery to the lungs, as well as deposition to the face and eyes. A study published in CHEST (Feb;133 (2):482-8) tested different nebulizer/ facemask combinations, including the LC® PLUS Reusable Nebulizer and Bubbles the Fish™ II Mask (PARI). The objective was to determine the influence of mask design with budesonide delivery. The investigators concluded that the design of facemask can influence budesonide delivery. A front-loaded nebulizer with a mask that reduces ocular and facial deposition is recommended.
