Article 2 - CHEST 2008 - Philadelphia

PARI presented a study comparing the PARI LC Sprint, PARI LC Plus, and Respironics Sidestream Plus reusable nebulizers to determine performance and efficiency using Budesonide. The study looks closely at Respirable Drug Delivery Rate (RDDR) as an objective measure for evaluating nebulizer performance.  Key findings:

» RDDR is highest with LC® Sprint and 46% higher compared to Sidestream Plus(p<0.002)

» LC® PLUS RDDR is 39% higher compared to Sidestream Plus (p<0.002)

» Treatment time was shortest for the LC Sprint at 4.9 min (p<0.0001)

Previous studies have shown, a higher RDDR indicates more drug delivery to the lungs per minute.  Therefore, it is important for clinicians to consider RDDR when prescribing specific nebulizers to ensure patients receive clinically effective doses.
